About our Puppy Questionaire
Is A Wheaten the Right Breed For You?
Are you looking for:
A bright, affectionate companion? A medium sized sturdy dog? An
energetic, fun loving, active dog with an exuberant personality?
Are you willing to:
1)
Monitor and socialize an active puppy.
2) Train an independent Terrier-starting with puppy classes (a
real must)?
3) Devote time to grooming daily (brush and comb)?
4) Bathe, blow dry and trim and cut nails – or have your
Wheaten professionally groomed Monthly?
Provide a safe, fenced area and lots of exercise (a must)?
A Wheaten loves to jump; children are knocked down a lot. Some
Wheatens love to herd, so they do nip at running children’s feet. A
family must be able to accept these traits in their Wheaten as it is
very hard to break these habits. A Wheaten loves to greet people at
the door by jumping and expressing how glad they are to see them.
A fenced in yard or fenced in run is a must for a Wheaten. If you
are unable to provide this, an invisible fence is better than no
fence at all. However, a wheaten can not be left unattended with an
invisible fence, as they will go thru the invisible fence if
intrigued enough (chasing a squirrel, rabbit or other dog).
A little about myself and my breeding program: I have been involved
with Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers for 22 years. I am presently Vice
President and Health Director of the Motor City Soft Coated Wheaten
Terrier Club, member of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of
American and member of the Terrier Club Of Michigan.
The Wheatens I use in my breeding program, I show to their
Championship, hips are OFA’d at two years of age, eyes are certified
every other year and health testing is done annually. I expect the
Stud dogs I use to meet the same criteria.
I recommend that Companion Wheatens are also health tested on an
annual basis. Complete Chem Screen and Urinalysis with Protine/Creatinine
Ratio.
I have contracts for Companion Dogs and for Showing or Breeding
Prospects that must be agreed to.
